Mirrodin's Core is a nice early card to see, and really can help you out if you are squeezing in a 3rd or more color splash.
Although you are avoiding the damage that other sources of any mana provide (City of Brass, Grand Coliseum), and it doesn't have a requirement to keep it in play (Glimmervoid), but the fact that you may have to wait a turn to play the cards you want holds Mirrodin's Core back from being truly worthwhile.
In casual play, where every point of life counts and things tend to go at a slower pace (for more interesting decks), Mirrodin's Core might be slightly more worthwhile.

Ironman Mirrodin - Part 1   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Mirrodin block was the first time many of us had delved back into Magic, having ended our involvement just before Urza's block (yes, as Type 1 players we're crying about it, too).
So each of us put in $$$ for a Mirrodin starter (or whatever they're called these days), and they all came over to my place for a bit of a birthday tourney, as I'd just turned 28 on the 2nd.
Because AUD$20 is a bit hefty for a day of fun without any material rewards (yes, we are cardboard addicts), and to add a bit of agonising to the tournament (we had 8 players, so single elimination worked perfectly), the decision was made that everyone could keep a single card from their starter.

I feel like if they knew about the mirrodin style when they made the arguments for the new card face, it was a little cheeky to leave this out.

Yes, Wizards has said that Mirrodin is another plane, but it could still be linked to the mirrari.
It's just hypothetical, but maybe the Mirari is just a kind of planar portal that extracts mana from Mirrodin (the new plane) and all that mana is sent to Otaria in Dominaria.
If Mirrodin is an artifact-based set, maybe we will see lots of colorless mana producing artifacts and in the storyline it is reflected as the big amounts of mana (magic power) the Mirari can produce.
