SARAJEVO, Dec 9: Mirza Delibasic, Olympic gold medallist with the former Yugoslavian basketball team in 1980, has died, Dnevni Avaz newspaper reported Sunday.
Bosnian Delibasic, who was 47, had been awarded the Olympic Order in April for his outstanding career as a player for Sloboda from the north-eastern town of Tuzla, KK Bosnia from Sarajevo and the Spanish team Real Madrid.
Delibasic was the first coach of Bosnia’s national basketball team after the country declared independence from the former Yugoslav federation leading to a brutal 1992-95 war.—AFP

A day later VREME talked to Mario Primorac, a Bosnian center, who said it was a joint decision by the players and management, while selector Mirza Delibasic noted that they had been "instructed not to play".
Delibasic, himself a national team player in former Yugoslavia, said sports and politics should not mix but he shrugged and added that he "understands and justifies the decision".
Delibasic told VREME that basketball is being played on Bosnian government territory as a league game in two groups (Zenica and Tuzla; Sarajevo and Jablanica) with a final tournament by the four best teams in Zenica this year.
