Misawa is a small city of about 43,000 people which sits on the southern shore of picturesque Lake Ogawara.
While they don't "roll up the sidewalks" and there is some nightlife, some people assigned to Misawa may miss the bright lights and excitement of a major city; however the slower pace, friendly atmosphere and country setting are the most attractive aspects of the area.
As of 2003, the Misawa Security Operations Center (MSOC), located in the western part of Misawa Air Base, was comprised of components from the DOD, the 373rd Intelligence Group, the 403rd Military Intelligence Detachment and the Naval Security Group Activity Misawa.

In March of 1984, Misawa was sent with Shiro Koshinaka to EMLL in Mexico, like Inoki sent Sayama to Mexico (however, Sayama was sent to Europe also to learn chain wrestling and probably spent much more time in both places than Misawa spent in Mexico).
Misawa would turn out to be one of the best wrestlers the world has ever seen, but he's no Sayama when it came to being a junoir heavyweight and being Tiger Mask.

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan —; Navy patrol squadrons preparing to leave after a six-month deployment took part in a number of important training exercises and one high-profile international incident.
As diplomatic negotiations between the United States and China began, VP-1 crews at Misawa were busy preparing a P-3 aircraft to retrieve the 24 crewmembers, of which nine are from Misawa and one from Kadena.
Equipment was removed from the Misawa P-3 so it was light enough to fly as many of the crewmembers out of China as possible.

 Living in Misawa
I received my assignment to Misawa Air Base Japan in July of 97', departed my prveious duty station (NSGA Sugar Grove, West Virginia) in March of 98', and arrived at Misawa AB Japan, on the 31st of March 1998.
Misawa AB is located just outside of Misawa city, in Northern Japan on the western shore of the Aomori prefecture.
The only letdown associated with the move to Misawa was leaving my Wrangler (Jeep Wrangler) behind.
