Topic: Misogynist

Misogyny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
In feminist theory, misogyny is recognised as a political ideology similar to racism or anti-Semitism, existing to justify and reproduce the subordination of women by men.
Frequently the term misogynist is used in a looser sense as a term of derision to describe anyone who holds an unpopular or distasteful view about women as a group.
Comedian Andrew Dice Clay was famous for misogynist rants in his routines.

MacKinnon's Feminist Argument for Censorship of Misogynist Pornography A. Women are subject to a wide variety of forms of violence, abuse, and harrassment as women.
The case for regarding censorship of misogynist pornography as a restriction of discriminatory action rather than speech is weak, since we lack good empirical evidence that pornography does condition male sexual response to images of violence and therefore provokes violence against women.
And again, the precedent of considering misogynist pornography to be action rather than speech, and therefore not protected by the first amendment is also dangerous to the interests of women as to any group that can advance its interests only through political speech and action.

 eye - The Female Misogynist - 06.05.97
However, a girl doesn't have to be a Power-Mad Bitch to be a female misogynist -- she just has to really hate women.
Female misogynists tend to abuse each other in covert, sneaky or devious ways, using nuance and subtlety to accomplish their wicked work.
This kind of misogynist shows her hatred of you by forcing you to focus completely on her boyfriend at all times.

Cinephiles Discussion Forums: Hitchcock a misogynist? From whence does this claim arise?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Therefore, if he was a misogynist, she must have been as well (which would have been bad, bad news for their daughter).
This I might actually buy, because this is one of the few post-1940s Hitchcock films I can think of in which the "good woman" is a passive nonentity who at no time offers the hero any constructive aid, and beside her the "bad woman" has so much more personality and power.
However, Hitchcock did not choose his actress (Ruth Roman); I can't help suspecting that if he'd had more freedom in casting the heroine, he might have developed her into a stronger character, but as it was he had doubts about Roman's abilities.

Egalitarian Islam and Misogynist Islamic Tradition   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
It is true that her previous writings contained references to egalitarianism and democracy as "the kernel of the Muslim message," or the assertion that Islam "affirms the potential equality between sexes" (Mernissi 1987 : 19).
The focus of her earlier feminist discourse was not, however, to substantiate such remarks ; nor was it to draw a distinction between an egalitarian Islam and a misogynist Islamic tradition.
Certain omitted details are troubling – Mernissi claims Abu Bakra is unsuitable as a source of hadith for he was punished for false witness, although in the case in question another witness said he was uncertain "of having seen everything." That was Ziyad whose view of the fornication in question was obstructed by a curtain.

Either they are both misogynists who need their orbs smashed on a regular basis or they are both devoted but misunderstood young lovers with insensitive and uncaring objects of devotion.
A misogynist is someone who hates the things that he (or she!) fears, those objects that are deemed threatening to the self's constructed image (in Warren's case, the hypermasculine Big Bad ideal).
One of the problems I have with the "Spike is not a misogynist" line of reasoning is that the justification seems to be that since he usually behaves better towards women, his misogynistic outbursts are mere aberrations of behavior.

By the time I wrote "The Misogynist," however, my master's degree was almost in hand, as was my thesis about science fiction and it was on its way to becoming the first thesis ever serialized in a pulp magazine, and if anything my writer's credentials were an asset.
The sale of "The Misogynist," along with two other stories the same month to Astounding and to Planet Stories, persuaded me to give up a job editing paperback books and return to full-time writing; during the, next three years I wrote or laid the foundations for my first nine books.
Occasionally I have described the story to a group and had some longtime writer or reader exclaim, "Did you write that story?" One writer told me recently that he relates the story at parties and leaves the impression that he wrote it.

If that account is to be believed, Gingrich said, Clinton's behavior is that of a "misogynist," a word the dictionary defines as a hatred of women.
Gingrich's "misogynist" comment echoed one made back in January by William Ginsburg, who was then Ms.

There is no doubt that Aristotle's texts are misogynist; he thought that women were inferior to men and he said so explicitly.
However dispiriting or annoying this litany is, and whatever problems it presents to a woman studying or teaching Aristotle, it can be argued that Aristotle simply held a mistaken view about women and their capacities (as did most Athenians of his time).

Interestingly, in common usage the term "misogynist" can be applied to anyone who holds an unpopular or distasteful view about women as a group.

Is Blade Runner a Misoginist Text?
In this essay, however, it is this possible misogyny I wish to address, examine its roots, and whether the misogyny present makes the text as a whole misogynist, or whether the misogyny is there for some other purpose more in line with the films key paradigm.
Blade Runner provides a prime example of this, in that it is the difference between real and unreal, in fact the difference between cinema and real life, that is the focus.
Instead, what the film does is use abjection in relation to the archaic mother, and the fear of losing one's identity to the archaic mother, to examine the relationship, conflict and fascination the real have with the unreal, or the cinematic.

Basically, we are all breeders by nature; the fact that women are fecund by turns and men are willing donors to their cause makes the world go around.
