This structure was erected in 1873 at the mouth of the Mispillion River as it flowed into Delaware Bay, and was fitted with a sixth order Fresnel lens.
A group, Keepers of Mispillion Light, was formed to oversee the restoration.

Lightning struck the Mispillion Light at 9:25 am EDT on the morning of May 2, 2002, starting a fire that ravaged the historic building.

For many years it was operated as a restaurant, but in recent years it had been abandoned while its owners sought to sell the valuable property on which it stood, fronting Delaware Bay at the mouth of the Mispillion River.
