Far too many of us remember Miss Congeniality, the pseudo-humorous story of Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock), a dorky, awkward, tom-boyish FBI agent who was assigned to thwart a terrorist attack on the Miss America Pageant, and ended up going undercover as one of the models.
Miss Congeniality 2 begins with nothing - not one joke that isn't flat or forced, not one new idea to bring to the table.
Bullock gave the first Miss Congeniality a pulse, and she is equally amiable and fun to watch in the sequel.

The Wire - Miss Congeniality 2   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
In her surprise hit Miss Congeniality, Sandra Bullock played FBI agent Gracie Hart, who went undercover as a contestant at the Miss United States beauty pageant, the better to protect America from terrorism, if not from silly movies.
But Miss Congeniality 2 is considerably less than its frequent funny bits, because it lacks the qualities the FBI reportedly prides itself on: discipline and drive.
Miss Congeniality 2 claims to be fabulous, but like a lot of sequels it feels all too familiar.

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous Movie Review at Hollywood Video
This uninspired and slapdash sequel to Bullock's crowd-pleaser Miss Congeniality does have a handful of funny moments and clever one-liners, but it's strictly a formulaic entry that recycles bits from the first film.
When the reigning Miss United States (Heather Burns) and pageant emcee Stan Fields (William Shatner) are kidnapped in Las Vegas, Gracie joins the investigation led by Collins (Treat Williams).
Given that Miss Congeniality was serviceable at best, it wasn't as if the sequel's filmmakers were toiling in the long shadow of a comedy classic.

calendarlive.com: MOVIE REVIEW - 'Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous'
Five years ago Sandra Bullock hit her stride with the fun comedy "Miss Congeniality," in which she played a tough, drab-looking but intrepid FBI agent who submits to an elaborate makeover to pose as a contestant after a beauty pageant receives a threat from one of the country's most crazed terrorists.
When Miss United States (Heather Burns) and the pageant's emcee (William Shatner) are kidnapped in Las Vegas and held for a $5-million ransom, the bureau dispatches Gracie and her entourage to Sin City, where she is to do news conference duty.
Bullock has an ingrained likability that has served her well through the thick and thin of her career, but it's not nearly enough to save "Miss Congeniality 2." In fact, there is an atypical strained quality to her acting here that suggests a desperation on her part to make the movie work against all odds.

Sensibly, nasal guffaws have been axed from the second Miss C. The film's weakness lies in its storyline, which is knotted with sub plots.
Miss America, a silly girl who became Hart's friend first time round, is snatched with one of the beauty pageant's hosts (reprise for a bloated William Shatner to further embarrass the Star Trek fan club).

Bullock back for more in 'Miss Congeniality 2'   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
While it ranks as one of Bullock's bigger hits, “Miss Congeniality” was light enough to fall off the screen, so it's not as if the world was clamoring for a sequel.
She purposely gives herself some moments to show herself as a klutz here, and that is a big element of her success, the vulnerability that she doesn't mind showcasing.
That will make it far from a surprise if “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous” is a big box-office hit, yet it would be that much more refreshing to see Bullock (who hasn't been seen very often lately) give herself much more of a challenge next time out.

Miss Congeniality 2 - Movie Review
Sandra Bullock isn't doing her underappreciated talent any favors by appearing in "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous," a relentlessly dim-witted sequel to her 2000 hit about a tomboy FBI agent going undercover at a beauty pageant.
The first "Miss Congeniality" was itself so hackneyed that the actress's Lucille-Ball-like gift for guffaws was just about its only saving grace, and the same fate befalls her here.
It seems after her exposure at the Miss United States beauty pageant in the first picture, the bureau decided she could best serve her country by being tarted up literally in satin and bows, and paraded around on a waving-and-smiling publicity tour of talk shows and personal appearances.

The difference here is that the essence of the story – about a frumpy agent finding herself rather than a fat girl embracing her neuroses – is imminently compelling, and actually requires little tinkering to generate new story possibilities.
The bad news, such as it is in the context of a Miss Congeniality sequel (bad in and of itself to hapless boyfriends), is that the filmmakers don't take the characters anywhere new, unless Vegas counts.
Miss Congeniality 2 will no doubt be a hit, further confirm Bullock as one of the silver screen's most bankable actresses, and produce future sequels where Gracie looks good, then bad, then good again in the line of duty.
