		The earliest identified inhabitants of the Sierra Nevada were the Paiute tribe on the east side and the Miwok tribe on the west.
		Lake Tahoe is a large, clear freshwater lake in the northern Sierra Nevada, with an elevation of 6225 feet (1,897 m) and an area of 191 square miles (489 km²).
		The Sierra Nevada stretches 400 miles (650 km), from Fredonyer Pass in the north to Tehachapi Pass in the south.

		Across the Sierra Nevada, the trend toward increasing habitat fragmentation and population isolation would likely be halted, and may be reversed, as habitats in all drainages were slowly recolonized by native aquatic species.
		The objective of this study was to describe the current distribution of introduced trout in the Sierra Nevada relative to the historic fish distribution, and to review the impacts of introduced trout on native aquatic biota.
		Although trout introductions in the Sierra Nevada can apparently cause the extirpation of vulnerable zooplankton species from lakes, it is not clear whether these species reappear in lakes that revert to their original fishless condition.
