 World - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
"World" is sometimes used to refer to the entire Universe.
After World War II it became common to speak of the capitalist and Communist countries as two major blocs, often using such terms as the "free world" as compared to the "communist bloc".
In English, world is rooted in a compound of the obsolete words were, man, and eld, age; thus, its oldest meaning is "Age of Man." Its primary modern meaning is the planet Earth, especially when capitalized: the World.

Amazon.com: Video: Cape Fear (Widescreen Edition) (1991)
The best way to view "Cape Fear" is as an exquisite comic nightmare, and one of its most delicious cosmic jokes is the way it reincarnates actors from the original, morally simple 1962 version into a morally gray alternative universe and puts them up to no good.
Scorsese seems interested these days only in making more serious pictures, and "Cape Fear," released in 1991, is the most recent frivolous or semi-frivolous movie he's made, followed by an "Age of Innocence," "Kundun" and "Gangs of New York" period marked by worthiness and varying degrees of pretension.

The DVD Journal: Double Feature: Cape Fear (1962) and Cape Fear: Collector's Edition (1991)
To be fair to this fun, yet slipshod, remake, it feels as if director Martin Scorsese was more determined to try out a new arsenal of camera tricks than deliver a credible thriller, as Cape Fear v.2 often veers off the track of narrative credibility into an alternate universe of absolute ludicrosity.
With this narrative, Cape Fear, based on John D. MacDonald's pulp thriller The Executioners, is simply a lewd and sensational thriller no different in concept from the thousands of half-assed B-movies shown after 10 p.m.
Technically, the 1962 Cape Fear is an excellent accomplishment, full of vivid chiaroscuro lighting, superbly planned scenarios of sublimated tensions (including the super-taboo threat of sexual assault on a child), and a few eye-catching visual tricks.

 47th Grammy Awards
Joss Stone and Etheridge's honoring of Joplin -- with Etheridge turning on the juice in a rollicking "Piece of My Heart" -- was a genuine highlight, as was the for-charity all-star tribute to "Across the Universe" that was inspiring if not completely tuneful.
This Grammy show worked to try to reverse some of that, bestowing lifetime achievement attention on such deceased icons as Joplin and Charles and living ones like Jerry Lee Lewis.
It also more or less proved the point that you can be safe and at the same time not stodgy, as the show's doggedly wholesome approach (even Lopez was covered like a blanket) didn't transform the event into a family values forum.

The Plastic People of the Universe was the name of perhaps the greatest obscure rock band of all time and their incredible story ranks as one of the truest examples of artistic perseverance and art imitating life in the entire history of Rock and Roll.
The story of the Plastic People of the Universe came full circle on June 12, 1993, when they performed at Prague's Junior Klub to celebrate the impending arrival of the recently reunited Velvet Underground in Czechoslovakia.
The band recorded and released a second album, "City of Hysteria" (featuring liner notes by Vaclav Havel and a new song by Egon Bondy), in the United States in 1991.
