Other missions, such as ESA's Rosetta Mission, are being planned that will land on a comet and scratch the surface.
But the Deep Impact Mission is the only one that will excavate a large enough hole to see the interior composition of the comet.
Mission teams from a variety of other missions have studied the concept, including the team of the Comet Rendezvous Asteroid Flyby (CRAF) mission that was subsequently cancelled by NASA in the mid 1990's and the team of the Giotto mission (which was flown by ESA to comet Halley).

In The Mission, the narrative centres on a disparate group of underworld killers hired to protect a Triad godfather, the target of an assassination conspiracy.
Thus, The Mission evolves into a character-study of how gangland brothers (who are the modern variants of chivalric knights-errant) relate to each other and pay off obligations or redeem themselves when they have wronged a brother or a big boss.
(4) His basic innovation in The Mission is the adoption of a cool, detached style for action sequences, as exemplified by the superb "shopping mall" scene where the assassins strike and the bodyguards defend their boss with ultimate cool.

A visually stunning epic, THE MISSION recounts the true story of two men--a man of the sword (Robert De Niro) and a man of the cloth (Jeremy Irons)--both Jesuit missionaries who defied the colonial forces of mighty Spain and Portugal to save an Indian tribe from slavery in mid-18th-century South America.
Mendoza (De Niro) is a slave trader and colonial imperialist who murdered his own brother (Aidan Quinn) and seeks penance for his sins by becomining a missionary at Father Gabriel's (Irons) mountaintop mission; Gabriel is a devout and idealistic man who extols nonviolence and peaceful interaction with the natives and colonialists.
Despite their differences, the two men must unite to save the mission when Spain, Portugal, and the Catholic church begin negotiating their boundaries in the area--negotiations that will affect both the freedom of the natives and the well-being of the Jesuit missionaries who have set up safe havens for them.
