At a June 8 City Council meeting, City Council enacted two by-laws which increased City Council by two wards, and changed the City's ward boundaries to accommodate newly created wards 10 and 11.
Since 1974 when the City was incorporated, ward boundaries have been redrawn three times in 1978, 1985 and 1991 to accommodate Mississauga's growth from 220,000 in 1974 to today's population of almost 700,000 persons.

 Mississauga property tax increases by 4.7%
Mississauga, Feb. 14 /CNW/ - Mississauga City Council approved a 4.7 per cent increase in the City's portion of the property tax today, as recommended by the City's Budget Committee.
The City portion of a homeowners' tax bill represents approximately 27 per cent of the total property tax bill, with 46 per cent allocated for the Region of Peel and 27 per cent to the Province for education.
The City has called for the removal of education and social services from the property tax, on the basis that property tax should not be used to pay for provincial services.

Council had already approved in principle the application to amend the Official Plan to delete the "Natural Area" classification of the forest, allowing for the clear cutting of the majority of trees.
