The upgrades are required to bring the municipal water system into compliance with the Ontario Drinking Water Protection Regulation and improve the overall quality of life in Mississippi Mills.

Project partners including City of Ottawa, Lanark County, Renfrew County, Town of Mississippi Mills, Whitewater Region and Frontenac/Addington Counties make up the remaining 15%.
