Before the AHL, he was the head coach and director of hockey operations for the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL) where he won the 1999 Kelly Cup championship.
Named as the fourth head coach in Mississippi history on July 10, 2001, Woods compiled a record of 169-94-25 in the regular season and led the Sea Wolves to the playoffs all four years while he was behind the bench, including two trips to the conference finals.
He won the Kelly Cup in 1999, and scored 176 points in 209 games with the Sea Wolves, who retired his number eight on October 13, 2002.

The Sea Wolves saw their offices and team facilities in Biloxi totally destroyed, their home arena took in over six feet of water and was rendered useless for a year and, much like the rest of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, had their lives and their livelihoods put in a state of chaos.
The Sea Wolves have approached teams in the ECHL, NHL, AHL and CHL to give them a venue to raise revenue so they can maintain key personnel and get their office up and running again.
