First, the purpose of transportation planning is to ensure that all members of a community benefit from planning efforts and none experience disproportionate burden.
Preliminary findings reveal that for all but the elderly, the Kansas City Area protected populations were more likely than the general population or other special populations to live in neighborhoods and communities with characteristics indicative of a lesser quality of life than the District in general.
To measure the impact of access to transportation on quality of life, the variable of not having a vehicle available (Map 11) was included.

 State audit faults Missouri's Department of Transportation
Missouri, with two major metropolitan areas, has the sixth largest state-maintained highway system in the nation (more than 32,000 miles of road), and MoDOT is also responsible for multi modal operations including mass transit, airports, waterways, and rails.
Missouri ranks 46th among all states in terms of revenue per mile to support the highway system, with $38,831.
John Russell, R-Lebanon, vice-chairman of the transportation committee, said he agreed the department needed more funding but that the more important issue of where resources were allocated did not seem to appear in the audit.

Ronaldo is going to talk about is a research project that the University of Missouri, Rolla has with the Missouri Department of Transportation on assessing the earthquake vulnerability along emergency vehicle routes.

The core of the initiative is a phased network of 600 miles of on-street bicycle routes that primarily serve a transportation purpose.
Encompassing an area from the Missouri River to 63rd Street, the routes will be mostly "shared facilities," that is, where automobiles and bicycles share the same traffic lane.
During 2003, the initiative plans to provide for additional placement of about 100 bicycle parking racks in the urban core, and several bicycle storage lockers are planned for long-term storage at employment centers and business districts.

It was clear in 1997 that the State of Missouri's Department of Transportation (MoDOT) faced major public affairs as well as engineering and construction challenges when the agency looked at rehabilitating the 40-year-old Interstate 70 Blanchette Bridge.
When news outlets see that a transportation agency has a reasonable plan for a construction project that will benefit the public, their reporting is likely to tell a "Temporary Inconvenience, Permanent Improvement" story.
Several short-term transportation alternatives such as increased transit service and compressed workweek schedules offered during the Blanchette Bridge were reasonable and cost-effective ways for travelers to adapt to lane closures.
