When industrialisation occurred, Mitcham quickly grew to become a town, and most of the farms were swallowed up in the expansion.

House of Commons Hansard Debates for 18 Dec 2002 (pt 3)
Merton borough council is especially keen to develop the station, which would be on the line between Victoria and Mitcham junction, and would open up the area for travel to central London and rail links in Croydon.
The train operating companies, Connex and Thameslink, said that services using Mitcham junction could call at the proposed station.
I hope that the Minister will agree that the proposal for a station at Eastfields must be treated as a priority by the Strategic Rail Authority, and I urge him to use his good offices to persuade the SRA to bring Eastfields station back up the agenda and to make an early decision.

 bln98gb.txt
Woodhall Junction was renamed as such on 10 July 1922, though the station was not then "new." Morebath Junction Halt opened on 1 December 1928 and Stoke Junction Halt on 17 July 1932 but in these cases it might be questioned whether "Junction" was being used as a suffix.
The return journey by coach to the station reveals that, with it being positioned to the east of the dual carriageway, it is necessary to head by road back to the main line itself, pass over it, negotiate a roundabout and recross the line in order to return south to Heathrow Junction.
An easy cross-platform interchange is made at the Junction station with a fleet of FastTrain road coaches that whisk passengers via Europe's first dedicated motorway bus lane along the M4 spur road to Terminals 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Transport Plans for the London Area - South
This is a scheme for a second tram route from Wimbledon station to Mitcham Junction.
In January 2001, TfL stated that one of the options that had been discussed was to extend Tramlink to Crystal Palace station and to provide a fixed link (for instance, escalator or funicular) from the terminus up to the bus station in The Parade.
Desired minimum frequencies were 6 trains per hour at stations in Zones 1-4 and 4 tph at stations in Zones 5 and 6, and this could be achieved at nearly all stations.

 alwaystouchout.com - Eastfields Station
This large residential area is devoid of rail transport, the nearest station being at Mitcham Junction, some distance away, and therefore transport into London is by bus along quite congested roads to Tooting Broadway and then the similarly congested Northern Line.
Eastfields station would be on the Streatham/Balham to Mitcham Junction line served by South Central & Thameslink.
A feasibility study in 2000 by Merton Council, Railtrack and Thameslink showed Eastfields station to be economically viable, attracting 10,000 passengers per week.
