The main attractions in Mitchell River National Park are Aunauyu (Surveyors Pool) and Punamii-unpuu (Mitchell Falls, which has a 5-fall drop ending in a deep gorge.
In Drysdale River National Park in the northern Kimberley, 594 plant species have been recorded including carnivorous bladderworts, trigger plants (Stylidium sp.), which release their trigger or column on the back of an insect to deposit or collect pollen, and 25 fern species.
Another popular destination is Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle), where sandstone forms beehive mounds encased in a skin of alternating orange and black bands.

We returned to Mitchell River as Michelle had said it looked quite nice from the photos she had seen from our Christmas Trip here, and it was going to be a hot weekend, so a nice cool river was the perfect place to be.
They drove across the river a number of times, and as it got later they drove up and down the river banks and throughthe campground, beeping their horns and being a general nuisance to everybody.

Mitchell Caverns are primarily the result of sedimentary limestone and metamorphised limestone (marble) being dissolved by ground water high in carbonic acid content.

The park was named after anthropologist and politician, Alfred William Howitt, an early settler of Lucknow who headed the party that located the remnants of the Bourke and Wills expedition.

Although Lakes National Park is close to Bairnsdale as the currawong flies, the drive is all the way around the lakes to the peninsula and turned out to be a tiring day.

There were 7 kids age 4 to 16 and it seemed that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.The adult ones did too.
