Mito Castle changed hands several times after that: a daimyo named Satake Yoshinobu won it in the mid-1500's, but he was forced to surrender it to Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603 after the epic Battle of Sekigahara.
The modern city of Mito was formed on April 1, 1889, with a population of 25,000.
Mito is located on the Joban Line (Mito Station) and Joban Expressway, which connect it to Tokyo and Tsukuba to the south and Hitachi and Iwaki to the north.

At the north exit of the Mito station (overpass) and at the underpass streets, you can go directly to the bus stop #7 (see a photo) and ride a Ibaraki-kotsu bus via "Iba-dai mae", which means close to Ibaraki University.
There are some buses bound to the Ibaraki University stopping at the Bus Stop #5, but it is safer to ride on buses at the Bus Stop #7 for beginners.
There are also buses (named Rose Liner) from the Narita airport to the Mito station, and the bus stop from/to the Narita airport is three-minute walk from the Mito station and locates at "Ibako-tourist mae".

In that way, the installation stretches the boundaries of traditional exhibits, regarding the process of developing a work of art -- one that has not fully revealed its final shape but is still coming into being -- as art in itself.
