For Companies (Meaning of Pajero) — Chameleon Translations
For the curious, the Spanish word pajero means ‘wanker’, from paja meaning ‘wank’ (literally, ‘straw’), in the expression hacerse una paja, (literally ‘to do oneself a straw’).
Pajero has some non-rude agricultural meanings, referring to someone selling or transporting straw or (in the Canary Islands dialect) the barn where it is kept.
The Mitsubishi Pajero was renamed Montero (‘hunter in the mountains’) in Spain and the Americas, and — strangely — Shogun (‘Japanese warlord’) in the UK; but people in other parts of the world, including Australia and continental Europe, drive about cars which proudly proclaim their driver to be a Pajero in lettering along the side.

 Mitsubishi Pajero - News - Motoring - theage.com.au
Vehicles such as Toyota's Prado and Kluger, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Mitsubishi Pajero all have something to offer in off-road ability and their capacity as commuter-friendly family vehicles.
After its launch in the 1980s, the Pajero was soon recognised as a smart choice for those who sought genuine off-road ability without the mass, bulk or fuel use of the big-hitters - the likes of the Toyota LandCruiser or Nissan Patrol.
The Pajero was crammed full of driver aids, including anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, active stability control and even a form of descent control for steep downhill stages.

Mitsubishi engines are very reliable, but there are servicing tricks, such as the need to adjust the balance shaft drive chain on four-cylinder donks.
The Pajero NH was launched in April 1991 with new bodywork, sitting on top of largely the same chassis and engines that the box-shaped NG model used.
Pajeros with a fair bit of off-road use often suffer from worn trailing arm bushes at the back-end, and early NHs given severe service have been known to pull out the axle tubes from their diff cases.

 Mitsubishi Pajero
As the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed's suspension compressed to near its bump-stops while bounding through a steep creek bed in the Southern part of the Flinders Ranges, the composure of the Pajero and stability instilled terrific confidence - there was no need to be at the ready to catch any undesirable handling attitudes.
Driving at 110 km/h through a downpour that had water streaming across the road and us struggling to see through the windscreen (despite the wipers being on their fastest setting) we never felt the need to pull over and switch from rear-drive only to constant all-wheel-drive; there was already plenty of stability and safety.
Certainly, the Mitsubishi Pajero's combination of good off-road abilities and car-like on-road behaviour has always been popular - with the availability of active stability control on the top-line model, though, it is even more the case.
