Mittal Steel Company N.V. Euronext: MT, NYSE: MT) is the world's largest steel producer by volume, and the second largest after Arcelor by turnover.
Mittal Steel is based in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands but is managed from London by Mittal and his son Aditya.
In October 2005 Mittal Steel acquired Ukrainian steel manufacturer Kryvorizhstal for $4.8 billion in an auction after a controversial earlier sale for a much lower price to a consortium including the son-in-law of ex-President Leonid Kuchma was cancelled by the incoming government of President Viktor Yushchenko.

Mittal Steel Company (MSC) is reporting net income for the fourth quarter of 2005 of $650 million or 92 cents per share, compared to $478 million or 68 cents per share for the third quarter and $1.6 billion or $2.42 for the year-ago period.
•Steel shipments in the fourth quarter were 35 percent higher than those in the year-ago period, primarily due to inclusion of the former assets of ISG and Mittal Steel Kryviy RIh.
Total steel shipment in the Asia and Africa region were 2.8 million tons in the fourth quarter, compared to 3.2 million tons in the third quarter and 2.8 million tons in the year-ago period.

Mittal Steel, whose founder, Lakshmi Mittal, has never been bashful about his global ambitions, shocked the industry on Friday with an unsolicited $22.8 billion bid for the world's second-biggest steel company, Arcelor.
Mittal is using a 5 billion euro bank loan from Goldman Sachs and Citigroup to finance the deal, and will have $14 billion in debt if the deal goes through.
Mittal and his son, Aditya Mittal, who is the company's chief financial officer, both said at the news conference that they would like Arcelor's management to become part of the new organization.
