The Hittites and the Medians called it Mittanni, the Egyptians referred to it as Naharian (the land of the river, or river basin) while in Assyro-Babylonian records, on the other hand, it is known as Haniagablat.
The ruling class was known as the Mittanni and from that, very often, even the Kingdom of Huravat was called the Land/State of Mittanni.
The Aryan Mittanni probably rode to Mesopotamia, crossing Iran, from their Aryan homeland which lies around the Caspian Sea.

Qatna - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
With the development of the Mitanni empire in upper Mesopotamia, Qatna was incorporated but was located in disputed territory between the Mitanni and Egypt.
The inscriptions of the so-called Nin-Egal temple (part of the Royal palace, room C) show that Mittanni were resident in Qatna.
The campaigns of Pharaohs Amenhotep I (1515-1494) and Thutmose I (1494-1482) in Syria might have reached Qatna, but there is no conclusive evidence.

The latter, whose capital Waşşuganni is believed to have been located in what is today Ceylanpınar, thrived at the expense of the former and by the 16th century B.C. annexed all the territories of the Hurri Confederation.
This army, which was composed of two allied forces (one led by Şuppiluliyuma’s son and King of Kargamish Biyasilli and the other by a Mittani prince who had allied himself with the Hittites), captured Harran on their march to Waşşuganni.
Their King Shattuara I, who received intelligence to this effect, wanted to act first and marched on the Assyrians, but he was defeated and captured in this battle, which occurred in 1280 B.C. The Assyrians allowed him to reclaim his kingdom on condition that he accept Assyrian dominance and pay Assyria taxes an tribute.

In the unrest that followed, the Assyrians asserted their independence under Ashur-uballit, and with the Alsheans invaded the country; and the pretender Artatama/Atratama II gained ascendancy, followed by his son Shuttarna.
Suppiluliuma claims that "the entire land of Mittanni went to ruin, and the land of Assyria and the land of Alshi divided it between them", but this sounds more like wishful thinking.
This Shuttarna maintained good relations with Assyria, and returned to it the palace doors of Asshur, that had been taken by Shaushtatar.

The Mithra we know was the tribal God of the Mittanni of the Russian steppes, who entered Iran (Persia) and India around 2000 — 1500 BCE.
The first written mention of Mithra was in 1375 BCE on a treaty between the Mittanni (who swore on Mithra) and the Hittites (who swore on the apparently nameless Sun God).
In the Zoroastrian reformation/restructuring of the 7th Century BCE, Mithra was demoted to a Amentas Spenta (bounteous immortal), but was acknowledged by Ahura Mazda as being "as worthy of worship as myself." Mithra was acknowledged as the son of Ahura Mazda and became the savior god of the Persian religion by 4th century BCE.
