Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Appalachian mixed mesophytic forests (NA0402)
Mixed mesophytic forests acted as a mesic refuge during drier glacial epochs for a wide range of taxa.
These regrowing forests lack many of the features and much of the diversity of undisturbed, or old-growth forests, namely large trees, variable age classes of trees, structural complexity such as multiple canopy layers, and diverse and abundant wildflowers, salamanders, fungi, land snails, and other invertebrate taxa.
Larger, unroaded blocks of forest can also act as source pools for breeding migratory songbirds that are experiencing negative reproductive rates due to cowbird parasitism and nest predation by meso-predators in the mosaic of smaller forest fragments across the landscape.

Nearctica - Ecoregions of the United Staes - Laurentian Mixed Forest Province
Vegetation.--This province lies between the boreal forest and the broadleaf deciduous forest zones and is therefore transitional.
Part of it consists of mixed stands of a few coniferous species (mainly pine) and a few deciduous species (mainly yellow birch, sugar maple, and American beech); the rest is a macromosaic of pure deciduous forest in favorable habitats with good soils and pure coniferous forest in less favorable habitats with poor soils.
Mixed stands have several species of conifer, mainly northern white pine in the Great Lakes region, with an admixture of eastern hemlock.

The Appalachian Mixed Mesophytic Forests give us a rare glimpse of what life was like in the ancient forests that once covered much of the Northern Hemisphere.
These relicts of ancient forests are joined with a huge variety of other interesting habitat types -- glades, heath barrens, shale barrens, sphagnum bogs, and even cranberry bogs -- to make up one of the most biologically diverse temperate regions of the world.
Even many of the national forests within this ecoregion are under heavy logging pressure, which is usually accompanied by road building and the use of pesticides and herbicides.

In Wonder Woman issue #3, it is Wonder Woman herself who takes the dominant side, tying other women up, and, in one memorable scene, dressing them up in deer outfits and chasing them through the forest, only to tie them up later and display them on a platter.
William Messner-Loebs wrote the character respectfully and the series sold well, but the artwork portrayed the Amazon in skimpy outfits and sexualized poses, which drew criticism from feminists.
Phil Jimenez produced a run which was likened in some ways to Pérez's, particularly since Jimenez' art bears a striking resemblance to his.
