  Mnemonics - LoveToKnow 1911
Mnemonic devices were much cultivated by Greek sophists and philosophers, and are repeatedly referred to by Plato and Aristotle.
Except that the rules of mnemonics are referred to by Martianus Capella, nothing further is known regarding the practice of the art until the 13th century.
An interesting work (Memoranda mnemonics) was published by James Copner in 1893, containing a system based partly on the use of letters for figures and words for dates, as well as a large number of rhymes for remembering facts in biblical, Roman, Greek and English history.

 Mnemonic room system - Biocrawler
A mnemonic Room system is a method of remembering items, based on creating an association between the item and a specific room.
In theory one should be able to retain these items in memory longer than learning them by rote due to the fact that it is not just a method for storing words (abstract symbols at best), but are storing information about the words, whether the information is real or imagined (which you can visualise).
Using this method, which is really just another form of the Mnemonic peg system, one can remember and subsequently recall information any order, according to how one wishes go through the room mentally.

 Mnemonic - Biocrawler
Mnemonics rely not only on repetition to remember facts, but also on associations between easy-to-remember constructs and lists of data, based on the principle that the human mind much more easily remembers data attached to spatial, personal or otherwise meaningful information than that occurring in meaningless sequences.
Many mnemonics have been devised for remembering the digits of pi, consisting of phrases or verses in which successive digits of pi are obtained by counting the number of letters in each word.
A mnemonic for the constant e (the base for natural logarithms) is "We require a mnemonic to remember e whenever we scribble math".

 Analysis of a Mnemonic Device
The mnemonic system appears on the surface to be fantastic legerdemain, constructed by elves, and reasonable people are Likely to believe that magical and occult powers of mentation are required to use the system effectively.
Componential analysis of the mnemonic The next step after a few such demonstrations is to begin more careful analyses of the components of the mnemonic device, so that one may better understand the method, decide which components are essential and which are inconsequential, and perhaps understand how memory works more generally.
The numeric pegword system is similar to the method of loci except the memory pegs or pigeonholes are images of unrelated concrete objects associated in one-to-one fashion with the first twenty or more integers.

 Cartesian coordinate system Summary
Using the Cartesian coordinate system geometric shapes (such as curves) can be described by algebraic equations, namely equations satisfied by the coordinates of the points lying on the shape.
In analytic geometry the Cartesian coordinate system is the foundation for the algebraic manipulation of geometrical shapes.
A popular account, although probably a myth, of Descartes' discovery of this system was that he was lying in bed observing a fly crawling around on the ceiling when he was struck by the idea that he could accurately describe the fly's position in terms of its distance from two adjacent walls.

A commonly effective mnemonic for remembering the color sequence in a rainbow, "Roy G. Biv", is a combination of such unlikely elements: "Roy" is a legitimate first name, but there is no actual surname "Biv" and of course the middle initial "G" is arbitrary.
In assembly language a mnemonic is a code, usually from 1 to 5 letters, that represents an opcode, a number.

Mnemonics for the cranial nerves vary, because the auditory nerve is also known as the Vestibulocochlear nerve and the accessory nerve is also known as the Spinal accessory nerve.

Idoine - Using Mnemonics in Vocabulary Tests (I-TESL-J)
The use of mnemonics (memory improvement techniques) in language learning received some interest in research over 20 years ago but it is not a modern art.
One technique taken from its originators is known as the Roman Room whilst the word "Mnemonic" itself derives from the ancient Greek mnemonikos and is related to the Goddess of memory, Mnemosyne, so it should not be surprising that the best Greek orators could recite speeches several hours long without forgetting their lines.
The goroawase system uses the Japanese pronunciation of numbers to create syllables with a different meaning, and can be seen in many company telephone number jingles.

 Peg-Word System
The peg system is good for memorizing an ordered list of words as well as the specific numbers associated with the words.
The key to success in using the peg system is visual assosiation.
Since the rhyming sounds become repetetive, it may be better to use the number-letter system, a different system that can be used to create a new reference list.

The ROOMS section of the config file is where you shape the layout of the rooms; what they are linked to, if they are private, etc. This is simply done by one line in the config file for each room that you want.
The mnemonic is just a convenient shorthand for the room and saves having to enter the entire room name for each of the links.
You can list any of the rooms that you wish, or none at all as this section is optional and does not need to be in the config file (unlike the other sections.) Any of those rooms that you choose to list must also be contained in the ROOMS section.

Mind Tools - Memory Techniques - The Roman Room Mnemonic
Imagine a room that you know well: perhaps this is your sitting room, a bedroom, an office, or a classroom.
The basis of the Roman Room system is that things to be remembered are associated with these objects, so that by recalling the objects within the room all the associated objects can also be remembered.
The Roman Room technique is similar to the Journey method, in that it works by pegging images coding for information to known images, in this case to objects in a room or several rooms.

When facing the challenge of remembering to do something, we can increase the likelihood of success by (1) being strongly motivated to remember and (2) forming mental associations between what we want to remember to do and the future circumstances in which we intend to do it.
These associations are greatly strengthened by the mnemonic (memory aid) of visualizing yourself doing what you intend to remember.
