Mo' Wax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mo' Wax is a UK-based record label owned by James Lavelle, who founded it in the early 1990s.
Mo' Wax released records by many artists over its years of existence, the most notable being by DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Andrea Parker, Luke Vibert, Air (band), Dr.
Currently, Mo' Wax is part of the Beggars Banquet Group, but there are rumors that the label itself has folded and is no longer putting out new releases.

Mo' Wax signed with a major because Lavelle didn't want to keep watching acts that he liked slip through his fingers, much like Portishead and Massive Attack.
Mo' Wax is now a trend-setter, where even cheesy labels like the terribly named "Shadow Records" are trying to get a piece of the pie by concentrating solely on "trip hop".

James Lavelle - Mo Wax Records
He was playing Saturdays at the Fridge in Brixton and with Patrick Forge at the Gardening Club but was looking to take the anything goes eclecticism of Mo' Wax Please to a bigger audience- which made starting a club on a Monday night seem a bit odd.
Meanwhile, Mo' Wax was taking the Lavelle musical approach to even greater heights with the release in 1996 of DJ Shadow's seminal 'Entroducing', a record that turned music on its head and catapulted Mo' Wax into the spotlight as never before.
This is the lad who has gone from stealing VW badges to being namechecked on record by Mike D, the same Mike D who said it was only Mo' Wax that made it worth going to Britain, the same Mike D who partly inspired James Lavelle to make music in the first place.

DJ Shadow: Endtroducing... ---Ink Blot Magazine
After releasing a few singles in 1995, Mo' Wax CEO James Lavelle asked Davis to be the musical producer of a full length record under the guise U.N.K.L.E. With Lavelle off finding collaborators for the U.N.K.L.E. project, Shadow focused his efforts on producing and mixing his first full length album, Endtroducing...
Released in late 1996, critics were taken aback and called it one of the best releases of the decade, raising Shadow's international profile despite standing outside of the mainstream spotlight.
Mo' Wax capitalized on Shadow's worldwide popularity in early 1998 by releasing a CD collection of his early 90's material called Preemptive Strike.

He eventually regained the Mo' Wax name, but Island still holds the back catalog.

Stripping the music down to its barest of essentials -- bass, percussion, minimal samples, and heavy effects -- the Mo' Wax sound (best exemplified by the second Mo' Wax label comp, Headz, as well as its sequel, the two-part Headz II) quickly gained respectability and a large audience.
Although not as prolific as other Mo' Wax artists such as DJs Shadow and Krush, Lavelle's group nonetheless played a crucial role in cementing Mo' Wax's early sound though their Time Has Come double EP, the latter of which featured remixes of the title track by Plaid, Portishead, and U2 producer Howie B.

That South are a guitar band isn't to say that they don't occasionally dabble in the traditional hallmarks of the Mo' Wax canon, though; the incidental episodes of "Broken Head" take in dramatic rolls of DJ Shadow-esque drums, fuzzy Money Mark-style keyboard washes and moody orchestral strings torn straight from UNKLE's hymnsheet.
