Topic: Moammar Qadaffi

  Mohammar Qaddafi; Libyan Strongman
Qadaffi's statements to the press should give the reader a clear understanding of his attitude toward America and the Western Democracies.
Although Qadaffi has been strangely silent since the U.S. F-111 raid on his compound and several key military targets, intelligence reports have verified his as having provided financial and logistical support for continued terror campaigns against America and her Allies.
Although denied by Qadaffi, this plant is believed to have the capability to produce nerve gases, which will add a new and most fearsome threat to the free world.

In the 1990s, however, Qadaffi seemed to mellow: he was, after all, getting on in years, and it was time to become, if not exactly a neoconservative, as least as close to the classic definition as one can get in Libya.
In a single stroke, Qadaffi has painted himself as both a man of peace and a leading figure in the Arab world, giving the Arab cause the moral high ground in its continuing stand-off with Ariel Sharon.

Justin Raimondo: Qadaffi's turnaround poses a challenge to U.S. policymakers : SF Indymedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Qadaffi's high international profile over the years is mainly on account of his role as a mercurial moonbat among world leaders: certainly, after 34 years in power, he is one of the most enduring.
As an army officer in the early 1960s seeking to throw out the evil foreigners and lead his people to "liberation," young Moammar was in the vanguard of the Nasserist trend, promoting a pan-Arabist nationalist vision that catapulted him into power.
Qadaffi's turnaround on WMD poses a challenge to U.S. policymakers: how will they deal with the rising call among Arab states that Israel must now be compelled to do likewise?

 Outpost, February 2004, p. 1
Smarting from the impact of international sanctions and worried that the U.S. might use force against him as it did against Saddam Hussein, Qadaffi has agreed to halt his efforts to develop nuclear and chemical weapons.
Qadaffi was directly responsible for numerous international terrorist attacks, including the downing of Pan Am flight 103, murdering 270 passengers.
By welcoming Qadaffi to the civilized world, President Bush is "absolving the murderer of our daughter," writes Susan Cohen, mother of one of the victims.

Given the severity of the ongoing U.N. sanctions, Hussein may have decided, as did another evildoer, Libya's Moammar Qadaffi, that it made economic and political sense to change his approach and join the community of nations.
Recall Qadaffi once was considered as awful a tyrant and international demon as Hussein, so much so that U.S. warplanes bombed his residence in 1986, killing his infant daughter.
But putting aside such speculation, this much is certain: 976 American soldiers and 10,000 Iraqis would be alive; 6,000 American soldiers wouldn't have been maimed; and $87 billion of American tax dollars would be here at home, benefiting Americans in ways we can only imagine.

Because of Libyan sponsorship of a terrorist attack in Berlin in which one American soldier was killed, President Reagan ordered the bombing of Qadaffi’s home and offices in Tripoli, a city of one million people, on April 14, 1986.
Among the casualties at Qadaffi’s home were his 15 month-old daughter Hana, who was killed, and two of his sons, ages 3 and 4, who were wounded.
