Water Supply - Constantinople   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-31)
A third (Mocius: 250,000 m3) was added in the early 6th century on the seventh hill of the city.
However the piezometric towers (aqua castellae / control and regulation towers) evidenced in the Mocius and Fildami reservoirs demonstrate their function not only as large capacity storage tanks but also as control points in the distribution network of the city.
It could be argued that the three intra-mural reservoirs were associated with the expansion of the water supply system that took place probably in the 5th century.

Saint Mocius was a presbyter in Macedonia in the city of Amphipolis.
During a persecution against Christians under the emperor Diocletian (284-305), St Mocius exhorted the pagans who had assembled for the pagan festival of Dionysus (Bacchus), to abandon iniquity and the vile customs which accompanied this celebration.
When threatened with torture, he replied, "My death for Christ is a great accomplishment for me." St Mocius was subjected to torture, which he bore with marvelous endurance, and did not cease to denounce the idol-worshippers.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Council of Ephesus
A letter was taken to Constantinople at last in a hollow cane, by a messenger disguised as a beggar, in which the miserable condition of the bishops at Ephesus was described, scarce a day passing without a funeral, and entreaty was made that they might be allowed to send representatives to the emperor.
They passed back right through the city, after the abbot Dalmatius had interviewed the emperor, and the letter was read to the people in the church of St. Mocius.
Eventually the pious and well-meaning emperor arrived at the extraordinary decision that he should ratify the depositions decreed by both councils.

The Best Way to Rule a Country
One does not have to sit high on a throne and have huge armies, weapons or nuclear bombs, to be a king.
What Hui Ang meant was that Confucius and Mocius had won the true heartfelt admiration of the people, without having to sit on the throne to be loved.
Conversely, Mocius and Confucius did not even have a piece of land to their names and had no wealth, officials, weapons, nothing, yet everyone who saw them loved and supported them.

Mocius in his philosophy mentioned understanding the "spirits", but the "spirit" was not God and, thus lacked the absolute authority that comes from God.
The non-discriminatory love proclaimed by Mocius was just an ideal that could not be lived out.
