An early mod making tool was the Bard's Tale Construction Set, released in 1991, which allowed users to create game designs in that series.
Much more successful among early mod making tools was the 1992 Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, from Strategic Simulations, Inc, which allowed users to construct games based on the game world that was launched with the Pool of Radiance game.
Later mod making tools include the Elder Scrolls Construction Set, which shipped with the Morrowind game; and Neverwinter Nights, which include the "Aurora Toolkit" that creates designs that run under a modified version of the Baldur's Gate engine.

Mod or modification is also a term generally applied to computer games, especially first-person shooters such as Quake, DOOM and Half-Life, but also to real-time strategy games such as Warcraft III and the Command & Conquer; series.
Mods are made by the general public, and are entire new games upon themselves.
Mods in general are required to be non-commercial (free) when they include any parts from another mod, or the main game, which by there nature they always do.

 Five Part Tutorial to Mod Making By Apcalypse Demon
Now, make another folder in your Diablo 2 directory entitled “Mod Workplace.” In here, make a folder for all txt files maybe called “d2 mod files” for your txt files that you are altering and a folder entitled “Mods.” In the “Mods” you will do all your mod making procedures.
Make sure there is an “O” in the beginning indicating this command, then make one space and type the mpq name.
A bin file is required to make a mod work and to do it, just retype the file you modified but put.bin instead of.txt at the end as you see.

There is one specific Mod that has a problem with long links being posted in chat because it causes the screen to be stretched out and all the conversations from that point on are stretched outside the screen bounderies.
Mods are not supposed to issue an official warning just because of a cosmetic problem.
Unless it is a bug that could make the browser crash or something else bad could happen, in which case we will discuss that in the mod forum.

A quake3 modification or 'mod' is essentially a new game you can play in quake3, using modified rules / weapons / levels / characters / etc. Since the early days of quake1, id software have generously allowed the community to create their own mods.
So you make a mod, release it on the net, it kicks up a storm and you become famous in the quake community.
Be prepared to have to make choices between quake and other people in your life (yes it's a big commitment, I once lost a girl to quake [and yes, it was the right choice!]).

They make their money by licencing the mods/new games made so that you cannot sell your produce without paying royalties to the engine developers.
There are usually specialist pages/communities for modding in particular engines, if you use a search engine your bound to find a few.
There are tons of tools out there to look at for making mods, and most of them are free, and open source.

If you want to do something like, say, changing some unit to an elf, consider this: One unit uses five different SLPs, each with 50 frames.(Frame is one piece of an animation.) That makes it 250 frames to change, just to change one unit.
Plus, you'll somehow need to come up with images of that unit attacking, walking, dying, standing still (AoK units tend to still move, for example the horses paw the ground), and rotting in five different directions.
Be ready to make a large time comitment for something like changing a unit.

When adding a file to your mix file make sure you have that file extracted if it was in a mix file or have it excessible by exploring in folders.
The easiest way to make mods for Red alert is to simply edit the Rules.ini file.
To make it replace the tank explosion sound too, using XCC, locate the sound effect in question, copy and rename your boom.aud file to this file name.

Ok, you can make custom maps and you can change health attributes and change certain things, but I wouldn't consider that a "mod".
Like, usually when you play a mod in any other game, you have to download it first; new physics, models, items and gameplay.
Also, currently you can do some crazy stuff, WC3Campaigns.com did an FPS Mod, new physics like you want, it was cool, yet it couldn't hold a candle to real FPS's like CS.

Rana has graciously submitted mod development to me, and I did work on it for a while, but I could never find sufficient help to complete it.
Neverwinter Nights is out though, and there may be a possibility for a real Quest for Glory game here, with NPC interaction, adventure-game puzzles, and a depth that was just impossible in Diablo II.

Make sure the name you used in the Character menu is the same as in the Template menu.
MAKE SURE there is one blank space before every line in the speech.txt file.
