Modding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One is through so-called hard modding (modifying hardware, normally using a mod chip to allow the user to change data contained on its hard drive in the case of the Xbox.
Modding in this sense is purely a creative act and is normally quite legal (although it may void your warranty or violate electromagnetic emission regulations).
An example of this kind of modding may involve re-painting a case, cutting a hole in the side panel and installing a clear window so that the components are visible from outside.

Modding Triad   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
Stock modding is normally the point at which most modders begin, small at first with windows or lights being added to an existing case or buying a brand new computer case to fully mod as a replacement enclosure either for existing hardware or an entirely new system.
Stock modding makes up the largest portion of the modding community, there are many cool and original case mods out there and I have even done a few original stock mods myself, but as case modding becomes more and more mainstream the originality aspect of stock case modding diminishes.
Scratch modding is starting from nothing and creating a hand built case from the ground up, viewed as the pinnacle of modding it requires a high level of skill and technique, scratch modders represent the most hardcore of the hobby.

Because modding is so community based 99% of mods are free for people to download and the work done on them is for no personal gain (apart from the ever-elusive fame and fortune).
Not only this, but modding has become so popular that people with modding talents are always in demand by teams to help them create their specific mod.
Modding could also be seeing its end quite soon, newest commercial games are of such high a quality that the learning curve for new modders is impossible to climb.

Ian at www.2cooltek.com was an early starter in the entrepreneurial sector, selling the components and stuff in the early days of case modding (which was then simply the search for better cooling).
There are a handful of the original sites devoted to case modding still out there and running, and many have sprung up and died out along the way.
I don't think there is a single market out there that is more educated and finicky than this one, and hopefully, people will continue to push the envelope with more cool stuff.

I have tried case modding both ways and the "do the best with what you've got" method will only get you so far, I have found having the right tool for the job makes all the difference and also makes for a more professional finished mod.
I am not going to list every tool that could possibly be used to mod, I am just showing most of the tools that I personally use, and so far the tools listed have been about all I have needed (minus pencils, sandpaper and the like) to pull off some really killer modding projects.
I hope that this guide gives those new to the hobby an idea of the tools available to make case modding easier and also a little insight into their use, having said all that...

I would be extremely surprised, as the FEH has been out for only two years (ish; probably more like a year and a half).
Not to say there are not mods that can and cannot be performed but like all of them, some may be ill-advised unless said owner is completely aware of what the ramifications are for a given mod.
So hearing what others are doing to get more out of their hybrids is of interest to me. Those are the types of people who think outside the box and aren't afraid to try stuff on their own.

The Beginner's Guide to Modding - Half-Life Fallout Forums
Creating a mod project is not done by passion and inspiration alone, it is a long and sometimes testing process.
If you are serious about modding, you'll be in this for the long run, so the first thing you need to do is figure out what modding is really about, and what creating a mod really entails (this is easy for you, just keep reading!).
However, in most cases even modding a little will require a solid knowledge of the HL2 source code, which means at the least a basic understanding of C++.

Firstly you will need the *.bfs Unpacker created by Karok to extract the Flat Out game files into the correct location, this will enable the game engine to use the /data directory instead of using the *.bfs archives.
The files below are the main game files for Flat Out, before you prepare your game for "Editing", there is a few things which I think is best you know prior to going in head deep.
My own suggestion to you is do as ive done in the images, make a copy of your "Installed" Flat Out directory, then you can have 1=for playing and 2=for editing.
