 Ancient Scripts: Modi
The Modi script was used to write the Marathi language spoken in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Typical of South Asian scripts, a "consonant" Modi letter is in fact the consonant followed by the inherent vowel /a/.
Usually the same stroke form is used for the same vowel across all letters of the script, but in the case of Modi (and a few other South Asian scripts as well) different stroke forms exist to represent the same vowel in different letters.

Penn also has what he calls “a similar name thing.” Friends and family still know him as Kalpen Modi, and that’s the name he prefers.
But Penn calmed down and went in for the audition while his agent reassured him that auditioning was more about meeting casting directors than actually playing a role.

Azad Chandrashekhar- The Times of India
the script for the 75th birthday celebrations for former prime minister chandrashekhar would have followed this comfortable pattern, had the young turk of yore not decided to spoil the party by speaking out against his “gurudev” — prime minister atal behari vajpayee — who was presiding over the occasion.
expressing his anguish about the horrendous events unfolding in gujarat, mr chandrashekhar took his mentor to task for remaining a mute spectator, if not accomplice, to the politics of hatred being played out in modi’s gujarat when the nation expected of him the qualities of resolute leadership and bipartisan behaviour.
while mr chandrashekhar stopped short of asking the prime minister to step down, he made it clear that this was only because any alternative to mr vajpayee from within his party was likely to be “far worse”.
