In September 1970 Mogollar went to Paris to produce an LP for the Guilde Internationale du Disque and a single for CBS ("Behind the Dark-Hitchin'") Mogollar became what seemed to be a reaction to stagnation by musicians who had decided that it was time to stop imitating the music of the western world.
Mogollar continued their work for five more years, going abroad from time to time and working with many different groups.
The original members of Mogollar have been joined by 24-year-old keyboardist Serhat Ersöz and today they continue to regularly please their audience in Jazz Stop, which is owned by Engin Yörükoglu, and still appear live in concert all over Turkey and Europe.

Anatolian rock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Turkish rock scene began in the mid- to late 1960s, when popular United States and United Kingdom bands became well-known.
Soon, Turkish performers like Mogollar created a distinctively Turkish fusion of rock and folk; this was called Anatolian rock, a term which now generically describes most any kind of Turkish rock.
From 1966 to about 1975, psychedelic rock was very popular in Turkey.

It's no secret that for the Aquarius staff and quite a few of our customers, the rock 'n' folk of hippie-era Turkey holds a BIG attraction.
And perhaps the best example of this Middle Eastern psych-rock is the band Mogollar (aka Les Mogol).

Like we said in the 3 Hur-el review, above, the Middle Eastern '60s/'70s psychedelic rock scene is quite a happenin' phenomenon here at Aquarius -- bands from Istanbul blending the "heavy" beat sounds of London, L.A. and San Francisco with their own ethnic musical traditions.
So, along with that great 3 Hur-el disc, we're *really* pleased to have just gotten cd copies in stock of a 1971 album by the fantastic Mogollar (or Les Mogol as they were known in France, where this LP was first released).
This band has been a super favorite of ours ever since we first heard 'em on the "Love Peace & Poetry: Asian Psychedelia", "Turkish Delights", and "Hava Narghile" compilations.
