	Mohabbatein: a review
		To say that Mohabbatein has been the most eagerly awaited film of the year is an understatement.
		Aditya Chopra said he has had the idea of Mohabbatein for more than 10 years and originally wanted it to be his debut film instead of DDLJ.
		The costumes by Manish Malhotra and Karan Johar are smart and hip, the cinematography by Manmohan Singh is efficient though the camera moves a bit too often throughout the film, the choreography by Farah Khan, energetic and the art direction by Sharmista Roy particularly in the interiors stands out.

		The plot of Mohabbatein is essentially Dead Poet's Society meets Footloose (just substitute "love ban" for "rock and roll ban"), with nary a twist or turn that hasn't been seen a hundred times before.
		Perhaps the most impressive of the newcomers is Preeti Jhangiani, who manages to be engaging in a rather contrived role as a young woman who must carry on the facade that her husband is still alive in order to placate the man's delusional father (played with typical bug-eyed zeal by Amrish Puri).
		If the performances in Mohabbatein are by and large strictly ordinary, the song-and-dance numbers -- all of which have been filmed and edited with an impressive fluidity -- more than rise to the occasion.

		I have to say...of the reviews I've read and the few people I've spoken with, I seem to be the only one who was completely disappointed with the story in Mohabbatein.
		This movie is a great example of Bollywood at it's best- the music is incredible and the dance scene with the anklets (you'll know what I mean when you see it) is breathtaking.
		Mohabbatein, or 'Love stories' as translated, is a movie which interweaves 5 (or 6 depending on how you look at it) stories of life and love.

		A Bollywood Dead Poet's Society [Peter Weir, 1989] turned into a love story, this railing against the establishment film boasts such effective structuring that its four hour runtime flies by without need of side car chases and special effects.
		By separating the love stories into three, Mohabbatein manages to cover more emotional ground without stepping outside of its college setting, making good use of the small town in which the university is located (with a side trip to what appear to be the Swiss alps at one point).
		Beautiful dance sequences (especially one centered around Holi) round out this battle between fear and love, supported by the great Amitabh Bachchan and a very good Shahrukh Khan.
