  Mohair - LoveToKnow 1911
MOHAIR, the hair of a variety of goat originally inhabiting the regions of Asiatic Turkey of which Angora is the centre, whence the animal is known as the Angora goat.
The growing demand for mohair further resulted in attempts on a commercial scale to introduce the goat into South Africa - where it was crossed with the native goat - the United States, Australia, and later still New Zealand.
The manufacture of fabrics from mohair - as in the case of alpaca and cashmere - was in the first instance due to the genius of the rearers of the goat.

Mohair dyeing can take place at several stages in the processing: if it is dyed after it has been scoured, it is called stock-dyed mohair; if after spinning, it is referred to as yarn-dyed; if after weaving or knitting, it is called piece-dyed.
If the mohair is to be spun using the worsted system, a further step, combing, is required to remove short fibers called noils and to further straighten the long fibers for the production of fine yarns that are smoother than woolen yarns.
