The congress was held from September 16 to 19 in Tehran and Tabriz.
Born in Tabriz, Shahriar came to Tehran in 1921 and continued his studies at the Dar ul-Fonun high school and began studying medicine after graduating from Dar ul-Fonun in 1924.
Shahriar published his first book of poems in 1929, with prefaces by Mohammad-Taghi Bahar, Saeid Nafisi, and Pejman Bakhtiari.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that commemorating great contemporary poet Mohammad Hossein Shahriar is tantamount to honoring rich Iranian culture and civilization and national celebrities.
In a meeting with members of the headquarters in charge of organizing Congress on Poet Mohammad Hossein Shahriar, President Ahmadinejad said that poetry of the late contemporary poet is full of sincerity to Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) infallible household, love for Iran and lofty humanitarian values.
He recommended to the organizers of the congress to focus on conveying the humanitarian values in Shahriar's poetry to the young population.

Shahriar published his first book of poems in 1929, with prefaces by Mohammad Taghi Bahar, Saeed Nafisi, and Pezhman Bakhtiari.
His most famous poem Heydar-Baabaayaa Salaam, in Azerbaijani, is considered to be among the best modern poems in the language and has been turned into a few plays.
