The Molalla River is a tributary of the Willamette River in the U.S. state of Oregon.
The confluence of the Molalla, Pudding, and Willamette form a floodplain that provides one of the most significant habitats for small mammals and waterfowl in the Willamette Valley, including the largest blue heron rookery in the region.
During the early 1800s, the area around the river was populated by the Molalla Indians.

Parents who complained to the state about inadequate special education services their autistic son received in Molalla River schools have won a federal court case requiring the school district to pay the couple's attorney bills.
The Luchts, who farm in Molalla, filed a complaint against the district in 1998, saying their son, Dustin, now 15, was not receiving an adequate education.
In a second due process complaint that was heard this summer and is still pending, the Luchts have asked that Molalla River pay the cost of sending their son to a specialized program they believe can better serve him.

Several City Citizens applied for an initiatives to stop the city from discharging treated sewer water into the Molalla river or discharging sewer water treated with chlorine to the Molalla river, These initiatives were originally denied but in an appeal to the court the judge required the City to allow the initiatives.
Friends of the Molalla River, Molalla River Watch, and Willamette Riverkeepers have filed a suit against Molalla City for wastewater violation over the last 6 years.
The Initiative to change the Charter of the city to prohibit discharge of treated sewage into the waters of the state was placed with the city 6/5/06 containing over 800 signatures to have the vote in September.

Friday I had the privilege of taking a fact-finding trip to the headwaters of all three forks of the Molalla River with four men whose deep appreciation for fish, fishing and and the Molalla River fishery was very evident.

NEAREST ROAD: Molalla River Rd 13 Miles south of Glen Avon Bridge on the Molalla River in Oregon, my friend, myself and two large dogs jumped out of my truck to check up on a regular camp site we use throughout the summer.
It is is about 1,200' in elevation and has the typical scruffy low-elevation forest look about it - some tall trees, mostly second growth, and a tangled understory of alder, slide alder, huge ferns and dense brush.
The abrupt start of the tree shaking was possibly connected with a resting sasquatch rousing from sleep and holding on to trees to beat a hasty retreat.

On the front cover was a story about the City of Molalla’s plans to dump treated waste into the Molalla River – my local swimming hole, and where I was heading.
When a similar facility went into operation on on the Scioto River in Ohio, near my veterinary school, the water quality, measured in levels of fecal coliform bacteria, actually improved downstream of the facility due to the influx of clean, treated water.
The Friends of the Molalla River have a good chance of passing an initiative, in a September 19th election, to prohibit the dumping of sewage into the Molalla River and they need all the help they can get.
