Mold (Welsh: Yr Wyddgrug) is the county town of Flintshire in Wales and lies on the River Alyn.
Mold was also once very much connected to the British Rail network, having a large station and adjacent marshalling yards and locomotive sheds, however this closed when Croes Newydd at Wrexham was opened.
As the convicts were being transported to the railway station the crowd grew restive and threw missiles at the officers.

Mold (in Welsh, Yr Wyddgrug), town in Flintshire, north Wales.
Mold was until 1974 the county town of Flintshire when, following local government reorganization, it became the headquarters of the new county of Clwyd.
In 1996 Clwyd was abolished, and Mold became once again the administrative headquarters of Flintshire—which does not have the same boundaries as the original Flintshire.

When Civil Registration was introduced (on 1 July 1837), the parish of Mold was assigned to the No. 4 ("Mold") sub-district of the Holywell Registration District, which was co-extensive with the Holywell poor law Union.

In 1801, the population of Flintshire was 39,469.
In Flintshire, this reorganisation had run its course by the beginning of the twentieth century (with the exception of the parish of Shotton, which was created in 1921); and the Anglican parish structure in Flintshire has remained essentially unchanged for over 100 years.

This wood engraving of the riot in Mold was published in 'The Illustrated London News' in June 1869.

The present ring of 6 bells at Mold (Tenor 8cwt [406.5kg]) were cast in 1732 for the smaller structure which then stood on the site and the new heavier ring of bells will be much more acoustically suitable for the fine 18th century tower which was built in 1773.
