Moldavian ASSR or Moldovan SSR (Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic; Romanian: Republica Autonomă Socialistă Sovietică Moldovenească) was an autonomous region of the Ukrainian SSR between 12 October 1924 and 2 August 1940, encompassing Transnistria (now in Moldova) and parts which are now in Ukraine.
The Romanians of the Moldavian ASSR had education in Romanian language, but starting with the early 1930s, the Soviet authorities created the Moldavian alphabet, which was a Cyrillic script, based on the Russian alphabet and adapted to the Romanian language.
In 1937, the Romanian intelectuals of the ASSR were accused by the Soviets that were spies and saboteurs, nearly all of them were removed from offices, and repressed, and many of them were executed.

Moldavian ASSR or Moldovan ASSR (Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic; Romanian: Republica Autonomă Socialistă Sovietică Moldovenească) was an autonomous region of the Ukrainian SSR between 12 October 1924 and 2 August 1940, encompassing Transnistria (now in Moldova) and parts which are now in Ukraine.
Initially, on March 7, 1924, it was cautiously decided to create the Moldavian Autonomous Oblast within the Ukrainian SSR, but eventually it was decided to elevate it to the status of autonomous republic.
In order to differentiate the "Moldavian Socialist culture" from the "Romanian burgeois culture" and to keep Soviet Moldovans far from Romanian influences, Cyrillic script was used in Moldavian schools (instead of Latin script which was used in Romania).

In taking part of the far nothern part of the Moldavian ASSR, northern Bulkovina (a country mostly occupied by ethnic Ukrainians and Romanians), and southern Bessarabia from Romania and giving it to the Ukrainian SSR, the Moldavian SSR was stuck, literally landlocked from the Black Sea.
Now that the Soviets were back in Moldavian SSR, with Stalin in power the goal was to remove all ties the Moldavian SSR had with Romania and “Russify” the area and population.
