The leu (currency code MDL, plural form - lei) is the official name for national currency of Moldova.
During the period between 1918 - 1940 and 1941-1944, romanian leu would circulated within moldowa.
For the first time, moldova would establish leu as a currency in 1993 after gaining it's independence.
