Molineux stadium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Molineux stadium is the home ground of Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., who are currently members of the Football League Championship.
The stadium is located within a mile of Wolverhampton city centre, just outside the ring road, and is a prominent building both because of its size and because many parts of the stands are decorated in gold, to go with the team's colour of gold.
Molineux, with an all-seated capacity of 28,500, was now one of the largest stadiums in England, although it has since been eclipsed by many other new and revamped stadiums.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club Molineux from Football.co.uk
Molineux has been completely rebuilt in recent years, with the oldest stand, then called the John Ireland Stand (since renamed the Steve Bull Stand) being opened in 1979.
The stadium itself is superb and is made up of four separate stands, complete with a couple of posh video screens in two corners, which show the game as it is being played.
Both ends are large single tiered stands (one of which the Stan Cullis Stand has a small clock perched on its roof), whilst both sides are two tiered with a row of executive boxes along the middle.

From its early days of dirt banks, it saw development in the 20s and mid-30s to a stadium that was famous throughout football.
In December of that year the jigsaw was completed when the Jack Harris Stand replaced the South Bank and the John Ireland Stand, which was renamed as the Steve Bull Stand in the summer of 2003, was completely refurbished.

The History of Molineux 1889-1989   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Developments and improvements to Molineux were carried out when funds allowed, and although it was one of the best-equipped grounds in the Football League, it still required an awful lot of attention, especially to one-side, which backed on to a busy main road.
Those who stood on the Molineux Street side of the ground complained bitterly that the sloping bank made their 'feet ache', while those who chose to sit down to watch their football, urged for the erection of a new grandstand on the Waterloo Road side.
Thus the 'old' Molineux Street stand was eventually demolished, and with it disappeared the famous gold-gabled roof and clock.

Molineux are a dutch family who were wool merchants who lived in Wolverhampton, the grounds were the gardens of thier house, which they gave to the people of Wolverhampton for sports.
We would have to keep the name Molineux in the title if it were too happen though or we would be changing ground names every 2 seasons as the sort of company's who can afford these 10 year plus sponsorships deals would not invest in a small club like ours.
It's now known as the Galpharm Stadium, so it's had two relatively high profile sponsors since it was built.
