Molly dancing is a form of English Morris dance, traditionally done by out of work ploughboys in midwinter in the 19th century.
Molly dancers have been recorded in many parts of the English Midlands and East Anglia.It died out finally in the 1930s, the last dancers seen dancing in Littleport near Ely, in 1934(?).
Molly dancing was recreated by the Cambridge Morris Men in the 1950s, and the Morris dance revival of the 70s saw the creation of many new sides, now usually involving both men and women.

The dance is also practised in Barcelona, Spain, where it is performed by girls or women, and in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Mary Neal, a teacher in London, was looking for dances for her girls to perform, and so the first revival performance was by schoolgirls in London.

As a child she competed in Irish step dancing competitions throughout the United States.  In 1976 Molly won the Northwest Championship and thus became the first Irish dance champion to come out of Portland  This prompted her to share her talent, and at age 16, she opened her first dance studio.
Before teaming up with Breda Yeates, Molly taught Irish dance in Portland for many years.  She is a graduate of the University of Portland and teaches elementary classes at a private school.
She danced with the Carroll School of Irish Dance in Dublin.  Breda has a lifelong background in theatre, music, and dance.
