 Dicson's Graduation
Named after prominent Australian, Sir John Monash, Monash University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1958 making it the first university to be established in the state of Victoria for 106 years.
Since its first intake of students in 1961, Monash has grown from a single campus at Clayton to six campuses in Australia, one in Malaysia and one in South Africa.
At the age of thirty, Sir John had completed degrees in law, engineering and arts at the University of Melbourne where he was later to become Vice-Chancellor.

 First World War.com - Who's Who - Sir John Monash
Sir John Monash (1865-1931) was born in Melbourne on 27 June 1865 to parents of Prussian-Jewish origin and educated at Scotch College and the University of Melbourne, where he studied law, arts and engineering.
Monash planned and executed the attack at the Battle of Hamel Hill which began on 4 July, leading to the capture of the town by combined Australian and U.S. forces (during which he demonstrated to good effect his new strategy of 'peaceful penetration').
Once war was declared in 1914 Monash was appointed commander of the AIF's 4th Infantry Brigade based in Egypt at the age of 49 as part of the ANZAC Australian-New Zealand forces.

She is also working with South Korean colleagues on the intercultural transaction of emotions in theatre and in 2000 was a visiting scholar at New York University's TISCH School of Arts.
Dr Tait has a BA from Monash, an MA from UNSW, and PhD from UTS, and was a member of the 1988 NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) Playwright's Studio.
Her research in performance studies deals with the study of social languages of emotions and theatrical emotions, and the analysis of bodies and identity in physical theatre and circus performance, a project which is supported by the Australian Research Council.

 Adelaide students receive John Monash Awards
The scholarship isn’t Katherine’s only connection with General Sir John Monash: her great-grandfather, Edward William Mattner, fought under Monash in the First World War at the Somme, Pozieres, Bullecourt, Messines, Ypres, Menin Road and Passchendaele.
Katherine graduated with a double degree in Civil Engineering and Arts in 2004, and in March 2005 will head to the renowned Ecole Nationale du Genie Rural des Eaux et des ForĂȘts (or ENGREF) in France, to undertake her PhD in sustainable water resources research.
Katherine Daniell and Olivia Thorne, both aged 23, have become the first South Australians to receive a General Sir John Monash Award.
