QOTSA Interviews | 2003/07/24 - X-Press: Nick Olivieri, Mondo Generator - Hard Bald   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Housed and nurtured by surrogate mother to all of contemporary music's most label orphans - Greg Werckman / Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings - Mondo Generator have transcended from the realm of the dusty bedroom shelf to the all-important oracle of the digital compact disc, from where their attack is choreographed, timed, and imminent.
Much like a dictatorial war machine, Mondo Generator has been, as far back from its initial inception, the master plan of one particular mind, and is thus a far truer representation of that mind than the results that have spawned from its collaboration with other differently working cerebrums.
Mondo is overshadowed by Queens obviously, but I'm just happy to be making my music on any level, to be getting it out, so it's really all good.

Mondo Generator remained barely in existence as a solo/side project.
The classic Cocaine Rodeo album was recorded as far back as 1997, but was shelved until the Southern Lord label released its singular brand of criminal insanity to widespread acclaim and horror in the summer of 2000.
Around this time Nick decided to return to the Mondo Generator project and record their second album A Drug Problem That Never Existed.

Sam: Just got the Mondo Generator cd a few days ago, there's a really interesting mix of stuff on there...
Lanegan sings "Four Corners" which is that last song on the Mondo record, so that's something I can see happening as well.
It's an enexpected thing, maybe for the people who are at the gig as well as us, you've gotta keep it new for yourself as well.

Mondo Generator is a side project started in part by Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri, members of Queens of the Stone Age.
Mercifully, A Drug Problem That Never Existed clocks in at a short 37 minutes, which is longer than the time it will take to forget this misconceived folly.

Mondo Generator Reviews | August 2003 - Metal Hammer: Mondo Generator - A Drug Problem That Never Existed   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Specialising in abrasive punk metal, Mondo began as a lark, when Oliveri laid down solo demos "just for the hell of it" in '97.
And it seems that mondo has grown into a full-fledged band, as ex-kyuss drummer Brant Bjork, Earthlings guitarist Dave Catching and bassist Molly McGuire are now listed as 'full-time' members.
While not as gloriously raw as the debut, Mondo's latest is full of trademark Oliveri freakouts ("Meth, I hear you calling"), anthemic punk ("Here we come", "FY Im Free") and Stooges-style repetition ("So High, So Low", "Open up and bleed for Me").

Following his dismissal from Queens for being seemingly too intoxicated even for Josh Homme, he’s been concentrating on his other band Mondo Generator, but even they seem to have had enough…
Oliveri's Mondo band mates, Dave Catching, Molly Mcguire, and Alfredo Hernandez seem to have had enough following an incident that left Oliveri on a roadside in the middle of the German countryside.
The problems seem to have begun when Oliveri took a disliking to what he thought was a bad sound and jumped off the stage, fought through the audience to take up his grievance with a soundman.

Initially intended as a solo/side project, the classic Cocaine Rodeo album was recorded that same year, but shelved until 2000.
Appealing to all fans of QUEENS OF THE STONEAGE, KYUSS and anyone who digs a great rock album; A DRUG PROBLEM THAT NEVER EXISTED runs the gamut from acoustic guitar & voice, to teen-punk anthems, to sing-a-longs that are impossible to shake, and epics of monolithic proportion.

It's Mondo Generator, the latest braintrust of a truly depraved individual who's come under extreme pressure it seems and this is his only way of letting off steam!
So this is no ordinary stoner-rock saturation but for those who can't get enough, there's still plenty to go around.
This current project packs more wallop than we're used to hearing from the continuous glut of desert dwelling hipsters, and is a fine mixture of punk and sludge-the bottle and the bill if you will.
