		On May 30, 1923, the five masted barkentine Monfalcone left New Orleans for Los Angeles, where she was to unload her cargo and begin her new trade on the Pacific Coast hauling lumber.

		Morti quasi sempre dimenticate, anche in presenza di vere e proprie stragi come quelle che le polveri di amianto hanno portato avanti silenziose negli anni, perché il mesotelioma della pleura si annida anche per 40 anni nel petto dei lavoratori prima di esplodere in tutta la sua virulenza.
		A Monfalcone sarebbe stata analizzata l'opera di costruzione, riparazione e demolizione delle navi militari, visto che nell'area i casi di mesotelioma sono di gran lunga superiori alla media, con circa un decesso al mese, negli ultimi anni.
		I rappresentanti dell'Associazione esposti all'amianto ricordarono anche che l'amianto era utilizzato a Monfalcone fin oltre i primi anni Novanta, contro un'ammissione dell'azienda che dichiarava di averlo impiegato solo fino al 1985.
