The median income for a household in the county is $37,168, and the median income for a family is $42,487.

In 1845 the area of the state was broken down into smaller counties and Moniteau County was formed.
The name for the county was chosen because of a stream that ran through the western and northern part of the county.

The 138th annual Moniteau County Fair kicked off Saturday with the parade which traveled through the streets of California displaying a variety of floats, automobiles, tractors and horses.
Earlier in the day, the Moniteau Saddle Club hosted a Horse Show in the main arena on the fairgrounds and various art entries were being placed in Centennial Hall which would be judged on Sunday.
Thursday is a full day at the Moniteau County Fair with senior citizens day from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; the Farm Bureau Hay Hauling Contest in Sappington Arena beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The first session of Moniteau County Court took place on February 27, 1845, a few miles north of the present-day county seat.
The curved portico design is similar to the 1826 St. Louis County courthouse designed by Morton and Laveille.
Moniteau County's courthouse is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Officials from Moniteau County, as well as Miller and Morgan are named as defendants in the suits which were filed in the United States District Court Western District of Missouri, Jefferson City.
Defendants named in the lawsuit include the county commissioners of all three counties, the sheriff's of all three counties, the Mid-Missouri Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force, unknown law enforcement personnel and Task Force members Tom Viner, Capt. Terry Everett, Lt. Tony Wheatley and John Loveless.
The attorney for the defendants had no comment on the role of Moniteau County as a defendant, but did say it is possible that Morgan County could be dropped from the suit.

In 1906 John Salmon, a Morgan County citizen, recalled that the court purchased a log house off the square for the county's first courthouse in 1836.
On March 12, 1887, before construction began on the new courthouse that Morgan County citizens had voted to build, fire destroyed their modest brick courthouse of 1844.
Pettis County's more costly version, designed by J. Cairns and J. McKean in 1884, was built with light-colored stone, creating an entirely different effect.
