  Monk :: d20srd.org
A monk’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.
She is forevermore treated as an outsider rather than as a humanoid (or whatever the monk’s creature type was) for the purpose of spells and magical effects.
Additionally, the monk gains damage reduction 10/magic, which allows her to ignore the first 10 points of damage from any attack made by a nonmagical weapon or by any natural attack made by a creature that doesn’t have similar damage reduction.

 AD&D Character Class:  Monk
The Monk was an original character class in the PH; but it was largely rewritten in the oriental rules.
During this time, the character may not adventure, but must undergo various rituals and severe self-denial to atone for his error--and a period of purification and reflection at the monastery is a vital part of character advancement.
At level 8, the character may choose to live on the monastery grounds at the expense of the monastery (deemed to be a prime beneficiary of the donations of all of those lower level monks).

If a character is not familiar with the type of mount or performance he is attempting, he suffers a -5 penalty to his skill check, unless he is familiar with a similar type, in which case the penalty is only -2.
Characters with three familiarities in one group are considered familiar with all types in that group.
For instance, a character with 12 ranks in Ride and familiarity with horses/ponies and dogs/wolves could take his third familiarity in the Land group as a whole, and would be able to ride any type of land-based mount at no penalty.

Monks are dedicated to the pursuit of shaping their bodies into a pure weapon, and because of this they nearly shun all weapons and most forms of armor.
Monks are great in groups as they are known for their distinct ability to lure creatures one at a time.
As with most of the melee classes they are also effective at lone adventuring and have the advantage of their god given skill, mend wounds.

Although Neutral characters are possible, they are even more rare than the class itself is, and would tend to be an interim phase, as most who begin to commit evil deeds (or good deeds) tend to continue to do so, sliding all the way from Good to Evil.
All Characters start off at a minimum of 18 years of age, assuming they were sent into training at the age of 13.

Being the first physical class that lets you attack from a distance, the archers are really good if you want to have a person move to the high ground and attack from a distance.
The real drawbacks for this class are a lack of HP and no ability to cause physical damage (the staff is one of the weakest weapons in the game).

Monk (character class) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Monk is a character class in the Dungeons and Dragons role-playing game which is typically portrayed as a master of martial arts.
Monks start out doing little damage in hand to hand combat, but they continually increase the amount of damage they inflict to the point were a monk's fist inflicts damage on par with some of the games best weapons.
The Monk class also has the capability to bind wounds, which gives a small boost to his or her hit points, making him the primary puller and a competent off-tank.

 Monk Class
The monk is supposed to be the best fighting class in the game in terms of dealing out damage over time.
Because he can't wear heavy armor (weight is very important to a monk), he takes more damage when hit, but the monk's natural quickness allows him to avoid more hits than other fighters and hit the enemy more often.
A monk's weapons are his fists, as well as the magical special attacks he gains as he advances in level (which provide some great looking animations).

A large number of Monk players focus on the Healing Prayers attribute, as healing can be one of the most important thing for keeping your party alive.
In PvP combat, a smiting monk can be a very useful addition to your team as well, as many opponents will assume that you are a healer, and will rush in unprepared for the damage output that you can deal, while putting less pressure on the real healers on your team.

Unarmed Strike: A monk's hands and feet (and the rest of her body, when necessary) are effective weapons when she begins play, and they just keep getting better as she progresses.
In addition, the monk's flurry of blows ability allows extra unarmed attacks, which can be very handy when she faces large numbers of fairly weak foes.

While that is certainly a path you can consider, you must also remember that Monk's are the only character class that get an armor class bonus from their Wis. When you make your character you are limited in what sort of armor (if any) you will take.
The Monk relies on lighting fast reflexes rather than brute force and so stealth can be utilized to convey the Monk to an opponent and strike quickly to ensure a swift victory.

The monk character class, with its emphasis on martial arts, is clearly based on the kung fu movie craze of the 1970s.
The class is already out of control when compared to fighters of the same level by 6th level, when the monk can attack twice per round for more damage than any weapon can do.
While the monk and the assassin are poor fits to D&D, it is impossible to say how additional house rules for the other character classes from the Blackmoor campaign might have balanced them all out.
