  Monoclonal Antibody
Monoclonal antibodies are excellent as the primary antibody in an assay due to their great specificity.
Monoclonals recognize only one epitope of the antigen and are highly specific to that particular antigen, and thus will usually give substantially less background staining than polyclonal antibodies.
Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) are a single type of antibody that are identical and are directed against a specific epitope (antigen, antigenic determinant) and are produced by B-cell clones of a single parent or a single hybridoma cell line.

Monoclonal Antibody Technology - The Basics
Monoclonal antibody technology allows us to produce large amounts of pure antibodies in the following way: We can obtain cells that produce antibodies naturally; we also have available a class of cells that can grow continually in cell culture.
These antibodies are called monoclonal because they come from only one type of cell, the hybridoma cell; antibodies produced by conventional methods, on the other hand, are derived from preparations containing many kinds of cells, and hence are called polyclonal.
Monoclonal antibodies attack the target molecule and only the target molecule, with no or greatly diminished side effects.

The aim of this study was to analyze C. sinensis antigens recognized by monoclonal antibodies, and to set up ELISA-inhibition test using C. sinensis specific monoclonal antibodies for improved specificity of immunodiagnostic tests.
The antigenic determinant recognized by CsHyb 0714-20 monoclonal antibody was revealed to be located at the surface and parenchyme of a parasite by indirect immunofluorescent antibody technique, and those reacted with CsHyb 0605-10, CsHyb 0714-25 monoclonal antibodies were found at the parenchyme and intestine.
Four antigenic determinants recognized by specific monoclonal antibodies were all found to be present in the early eluted fractions of C. sinensis antigens separated by Sephadex G-200 gel filtration.

  Conjugation of monoclonal antibodies
In this series of web pages, protocols, notes, and various illustrations are given to aid in the conjugation of proteins--principally monoclonal antibodies--to fluorescent dyes.
These conjugation procedures are commonly performed in our laboratory--we have conjugated several hundred different monoclonals using almost all of the various dyes listed.
The procedures are relatively straightforward and require only minimal familiarity with standard laboratory techniques (gel filtration and spectrophotometry are the most difficult!).

Datamonitor - Monoclonal Antibodies in Asthma: The choice between life and breath? - Market Analysis Report   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Xolair is set to dominate the respiratory monoclonal antibody market through to 2010, and data from the TENOR study may help Genentech and Novartis to further increase market penetration if a role for IgE in non-atopic asthma is identified.
Th2 mediators are the target of most respiratory monoclonal antibody programs, of which IL-13 is generating the greatest interest, with one third of programs targeting this mediator.
Although there is a significant unmet need among severe asthma patients who are non-responsive to corticosteroids, the price point of respiratory monoclonal antibodies will limit penetration in cost-conscious Europe, transforming the US into the dominant revenue-creation market.

Lymphoma Information Network - Monoclonal Antibodies
Monoclonal antibodies (MABs or MOABs) work on cancer cells in the same way natural antibodies work, by identifying and binding to the target cells.
In this case, the monoclonal antibodies contain a radioactive substance such as radioactive iodine that targets and destroys the cancer cells.
They may help destroy any cancer cells in a patient's bone marrow before an autologous bone marrow transplant - a procedure in which bone marrow is removed from a patient, stored, and later given back to the patient after high-dose chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
