  Indiana State featured National Recreation Trails
The Cattail Trail is a four-mile urban trail and greenway (currently under construction) provides West Lafayette residents with a connection to the Northwest Greenway Trail, Celery Bog Nature Area, and Purdue University's Pickett Park.
The trails also include a section of the Wabash Heritage Trail, which is envisioned to follow along the Wabash River and span 19 counties.
The Northwest Greenway is a five-mile trail (currently under construction) that connects with a local trail system and on-road bicycle lanes, providing West Lafayette residents with a variety of recreational opportunities as well as a means of alternative transportation to locations throughout the city, including Purdue University.

The Monon Trail lies on the abandoned railroad right-of-way of a branch of the Monon Railroad that extended from Chicago to Louisville.
North of 96th Street in Indianapolis the trail connects with the Carmel portion of the Monon Trail; this 5.2-mile section of the trail is known as the Monon Greenway and was completed in September 2001.
For the Indianapolis portion of the trail plans are being finalized to extend the southern end of the Monon Trail another three miles to the northeast corner of downtown at 10th Street.

IUPUI students are helping to answer those questions by collecting data along stretches of the Monon Trail.
They are monitoring infrared counters nestled in trees along the trail to determine the number of users at random times and to account for any users that are missed when two or more people pass simultaneously.
