A Utah-based monoski manufacturer called me while I was there a few years ago and asked me to try one of their products.
Handling characteristics are obviously very different to both two skis and the traditional monoski that we are all familiar with.

For some reason, the two manufacturers of Monoskis did not change the shape of their monoskis, which had no side-cut, but instead followed the trend by going into the snowboard business.  They had such success with snowboards that they allowed the straight edge monoski to die a natural death and discontinued promoting it.
In the mean time a number of dedicated and impassioned monoskiers continued to enjoy the sport and a few, including Robin Blackburne, sought to develop new monoski technology.

Monoski has been in a persistent vegetative state for more than a decade, and it shows no signs of coming back.
Anybody who says monoski is going to be as big now as its was then either wasn't there, or has been huffing glue for the last 40 years.
Trust me if a monoskier and a monoboarder are standing in a lift line together they are both going to hear the same thing.

September 23rd, 2007, 07:20 AM the monoski is still synonomous with "that thing gay people ski on" in a lot of pple's minds.
I think by that time in the early 80s Monoskis were a lot cooler and had quite large advantages over skis and snowboards (for which you couldn't even get anything like boots or bindings similar to what is used now).
