Monroe County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana, and determined by the U.S. Census Bureau to include the mean center of U.S. population in 1910.
In the county the population was spread out with 18.00% under the age of 18, 27.70% from 18 to 24, 27.30% from 25 to 44, 17.90% from 45 to 64, and 9.20% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $33,311, and the median income for a family was $51,058.

This summer Girls Incorporated of Monroe County had the wonderful opportunity to play a small role in the Lick Creek Settlement excavation in Orange County, Indiana.
We were told that the Lick Creek dig would be the, "best cabin site from the 1820-30's ever excavated in Indiana." Excited for the chance to witness the rebirth of history, we packed our bags, headed south, and spent the night in a primitive camping area approximately 20 minutes from the excavation site.
The settlement is located near Chambersberg, Indiana, which was thought to be a station on the Underground Railroad.
