City Councilmember Hiram Monserrate, who has never warmly embraced the Bloomberg mayoral administration's plans to remove the existing businesses from the Willets Point Iron Triangle in Flushing and redevelop it, last week flatly rejected the ongoing process by the New York City Economic Development Corporation to choose a developer to do the project.
Monserrate said that the existing businesses on the site, many of them auto-related, don't want to be relocated and are threatening to resist EDC efforts to relocate them or buy them out.
Monserrate vowed that if and when the EDC's plans come before the City Council, he will offer stout opposition to them.
