Depending on the timeline, Gamera is a giant terrapin that rested under an iceberg until it was destroyed by a crashing plane that carried nuclear weapons, or in an alternate timeline, the continent of Atlantis created him to do battle with the Gyaos, an atrocious reptilian vampire bat.
Gamera is the star of 10 movies, and is the number one header up of Godzilla.

Making her writing/directing debut with `Monster' is Patty Jenkins, and she has chosen for herself a difficult subject to translate to the screen.
I say almost because `Monster' is a film with a goal to shed a different light on someone who we assume was cold-blooded and thoughtless in her every action.
`Monster' is convincing when it digs deep into the psyche of the killer and tries to line up plausible pathways to understand where this violent behavior was born.

Monster Movies started in the early 1900’s actually with the 1912 La Conquete du Pole or The Conquest of the Pole, which featured French comic writer Georges Melie’s Ice Monster and shocked and surprised audiences.
The audiences that loved monster movies, mostly children and teens were drawn to war/action films of the early to mid 40’s.
The monster movies boom slowly declined and what used to be a production rate of five and up monster movies before the war dropped to one or two monster movies a year, and those got low box office success.

 Almost Monster Movies
There are a lot of giant monster movies, but also a lot of movies that feature giant monsters and yet are not themselves giant monster movies.
Does not make it a giant monster movie though, because that five-minute cameo is the only giant monster part of the movie.
Most of the thing seems to be an anti-drug movie, which makes sense during a time when not only where kids told not to do drugs, but to go right ahead and watch rated R movies.

Elsa only had one line in the movie as the monster's bride (she also played Mary Shelley at the beginning) and that was "eeeekkk!" She screamed when she saw the original monster, she screamed when she saw Dr. Frankenstein and she certainly screamed when she saw herself having a bad hair day.
I think this marks a turning point at Universal; from here on their monster movies were something along the line of "The Three Stooges Meet Dracula at Frankenstein's Pad to Kick the Mad Scientists Ass." All good things must come to an end.
The Wolf Man marked the end of the classic Universal monsters for more than 10 years when a new monster appeared that was every bit as good as their old ones.

One werewolf movie ("American Werewolf in Paris") and two vampire movies ("Vampires" and "Blade" - although the latter isn't really part of the horror genre) were also thrown into the mix, as well as a Stephen King adaptation ("Apt Pupil").
At the same time, we started getting slightly close to the monster movie revival when they started releasing movies of the "when animals attack" genre, boosted with the unexplained success of "Anaconda": "Mimic", "Bats", "Deep Rising", "Deep Blue Sea", "Lake Placid", etc. Some never made it to the big screen, others were interrupted in mid-production.
Then there were several attempts at making mummy movies, but only one made it to the big screen, a remake of "The Mummy", and it was transformed into an adventure movie.

American wise, I consider nearly every Harryhausen movies with giant monsters to be awesome (The beast from 20 000 fathoms, 20 Million Miles to Earth, It came from beneath the sea, Mighty Joe Young, etc), and then, there's his master's works, Willis O'Brien (Son of Kong, the fl scorpion, etc).
I didn't consider the first Jaws a giant monster movie, but if it is, sure, easily one of my fave.

This movie was one I had not seen in over two decades.
