	Monsters of the Midway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The "Monsters of the Midway" is most widely known as the nickname for the National Football League's Chicago Bears -- particularly the dominant teams of 1940 and 1941.
		The nickname Monsters of the Midway was originally applied to the University of Chicago "Maroons", a strong college football team under the leadership of Amos Alonzo Stagg.
		"Midway" is a reference to the Midway Plaisance, a long, green swath of boulevard space bordering the southern end of the campus between 59th and 60th streets and running from Jackson Park to Washington Park on Chicago's South Side.

		The term "Monsters of the Midway" was applied to the University of Chicago football team around 1900 when they were one of the dominant teams in the Big 10 under coach Amos Alonzo Stagg.
		The Midway Plaissance achieved international fame during the Columbian Exposition World Fair in 1893 when all the side shows (Little Egypt) and rides, such as the original Ferris Wheel, were located in that area.
		Even today, when you go to a circus or county fair and hear the term 'Midway' for where the rides and side shows are you are hearing a phrase that dates to the Midway Plaissance and the 1893 World Fair.

		This is one of those teams where we feel really hesitant to say much about because while we've seen them several times, including many of their players who have played for different teams in the past, we just didn't get to see them at all this trip.
		Likewise, we've also seen some of coach Dave Bloomfield's earlier incarnations of the Monsters of the Midway teams enough to know that notwithstanding who says they're going to play (and thus who is listed on the roster) sometimes with kids you just never know.
