It's a shame that the Lower Montauk branch can't be used to it's capacity like it should.
Both LIRR and NJT have stations at WTC, and during rush hours all trains continue to terminals on the opposite shore.

The Cross Brooklyn Expressway was to continue east into Nassau County as the Atlantic Expressway, which was to be built along the rights-of-way of Sunrise Highway and the LIRR Montauk branch.
Below the expressway, the LIRR Bay Ridge branch could be supplemented by passenger service.
The recommended construction would proceed in very shallow cut to pass under the IND Rockaway line similar to the proposed construction on the Nassau Expressway.

A full set of switches is located west of the station, allowing access from the Montauk to Atlantic branches as well as "reverse platforming" at Valley Stream station.
The line passes the abandoned station at Woodhaven Blvd. and the cutouts to the old LIRR Rockaway branch are visible.
Long Beach branch trains are allowed to continue into the station at regular speed while Far Rockaway trains are given a slow approach which they follow until they are in the station.
